Pradeep S. Prasad, MD, MBA – Surgical Video & Podcast Host

Dr. Pradeep Prasad is a leader in the field of ophthalmology, vitreoretinal diseases and medical education having served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for over a decade and Vitreoretinal Fellowship Program Director at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. He has trained over 100 residents and fellows and has been the recipient of both the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology fellow and faculty teaching awards. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, been an invited lecturer internationally, is a reviewer for numerous medical journals and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Retina Society.

Dr. Prasad earned his doctor of medicine degree at the University of California, Los Angeles where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. After completing his medical internship at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration, he completed his residency in ophthalmology and vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the world-renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Dr. Prasad later went on to obtain a Masters in Business Administration from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA with a specialization in healthcare operations and biomedical innovation.

Steven D. Schwartz, MD – Podcast Host

Dr. Steven Schwartz served with distinction as Ahmanson Professor of Ophthalmology, Professor-in-Residence of Ophthalmology, Chief of Retina Division, Director for Diabetic Eye Disease and Retinal Vascular Center, and Director of the Ophthalmic Photography Clinical Laboratory for Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He received his medical degree from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine, completed an Internship at the USC Hospital in Medicine, Surgery and Anesthesia, a Residency in Ophthalmology at UCLA School of Medicine-Jules Stein Eye Institute, and a Fellowship in Retina/Uveitis at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Dr. Schwartz’s primary research areas include early diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as macular degeneration, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), and diabetic eye disease. He conducted the first clinical trials using anti-VEGF intravitreal pharmacotherapy for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease, led the pioneering trial implanting human embryonic stem cells for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration and Stargardt disease and helped develop the Optos wide-field retinal imaging system, scanning pattern lasers for laser photocoagulation, small gauge sutureless vitrectomy systems and Retcam for ROP screening.  His current areas of focus include the development and evaluation of novel medical device technologies, imaging technologies, surgical equipment (including surgical robotics), and drug delivery systems.
