In cases of aniridia where silicone oil must be placed in the posterior segment as a tamponade for retinal detachment repair, the use of silicone oil retention sutures can help to keep the oil back away from the cornea and angle thereby preventing corneal decompensation and secondary angle closure. In this case, an anonymous vitreoretinal surgical fellow performs a retinal detachment repair in a patient with history of a ruptured globe and traumatic iris avulsion. Silicone oil retention sutures are placed in a grid pattern, which successfully prevents anterior migration of silicone oil.
