Traumatic retinal detachments represent a unique surgical challenge due to the potential for disorganized underlying retinal and choroidal anatomy as well as the high risk for PVR. In today’s episode, guest surgeon Dr. Aureliano Moreno Andrade, demonstrates an open globe repair and pars plana vitrectomy performed in a single surgical setting for a patient with a dense vitreous hemorrhage and retinal detachment. Here we discuss Dr. Andrade’s surgical approach as well as the pros and cons of performing single session vs. staged vitrectomy. We want to thank Dr. Andrade for sharing this case and congratulate him on an outstanding surgical outcome!
