In today’s video, vitreoretinal fellow Dr. Adrian Au, will show you the steps for removal of an exposed and infected solid silicone scleral buckle. The patient in this video underwent scleral buckling 10 years prior to presentation at an outside hospital with successful repair of the retinal detachment. The patient now presents with conjunctival erosion and exposure of the scleral buckle and the conjunctiva adjacent to the exposed buckle is injected and chemotic, raising the concern for infection. The patient is now scheduled for buckle removal and at the end of the surgical video we will discuss indications and risks of scleral buckle removal. Thank you Dr. Au for sharing this case!
