103. Externalized Haptic Management

Haptic externalization can be a tricky step when implanting a scleral fixated 3-piece IOL.  If a needle is used to externalize the haptic, sometimes the haptic may slip out of the needle bore during externalization.  Even when one haptic is successfully externalized it may slip back into the vitreous cavity while externalizing the other haptic.  In today’s video Dr. Aakash Cheema from Jalgaon, India shows us a simple but elegant trick to prevent leading haptic slippage and he shows us how he managed slippage of the trailing haptic.  His patient is a 54 year old male who presented with acute decline in vision to counting fingers secondary to dislocation of a single piece IOL.  Thank you Dr. Cheema for your contribution!
