24. PVR-associated RD: Part 1

Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is the most common reason for primary retinal detachment repair failure. The patient presented in this case has a history of pars plana vitrectomy and gas implantation for a superior macula-involving retinal detachment. The patient is now 3 months status post her initial surgery and is referred for a PVR-associated retinal detachment. Over the next series of videos we will discuss each of the steps for PVR-associated retinal detachment repair. In this episode (Part 1), we review the patient’s history, the rationale behind our surgical plan and review the first step of the surgery, placement of an encircling band.
