33. Bimanual Dissection

Dissecting tightly adherent tissue from an underlying retina that is mobile can be challenging due to the lack of counter-traction. This most commonly is an issue when delaminating fibrovascular tissue from the retina surface in a combined diabetic tractional and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. In this episode, first year UCLA fellow Dr. Itzam Marin, demonstrates the use of bimanual dissection in a patient with a diabetic tractional retinal detachment involving the macula. At the end of the case we discuss indications for bimanual dissection and best practices to perform this procedure in a safe and efficient manner. Thank you Dr. Marin for sharing this case!
