The patient in this case is a child who was struck in the eye by a mechanical pencil that was thrown by a friend. The graphite from the pencil penetrated the child’s cornea and peripheral iris and was visualized within the vitreous cavity over the posterior pole. Miraculously the patient did not develop a cataract. Here, guest surgeon Dr. Connor Wann from Wilmington, North Carolina, shows us how he managed this case and how he dealt with a common issue when the IOFB gets stuck in the sclerotomy during removal. Thank you Dr. Wann for contributing this case!
