
Perfluorocarbon liquids (PFCLs) are a powerful tool typically used to assist with flattening the retina during retinal detachment repair. In this episode we demonstrate injection and removal of PFCL in a patient who was referred for a recurrent retinal detachment after failed primary vitrectomy. In addition we discuss some of the properties that make PFCL unique, the various indications for PFCL use, some of the risks of PFCL, alternatives to PFCL use for drainage of subretinal fluid, cannulas that can be used to more safely implant PFCL and some tips for success.
