Adequate pupillary dilation is necessary for visualization during ophthalmic surgery. Options for pupillary dilation include intracameral instillation of epinephrine, viscodilation, iris retractors and a Malyugin ring. In today’s episode we will be using iris retractors for a patient undergoing secondary lens implantation. Since we will be working in the anterior chamber, we want the iris retractors to be close to the iris root and parallel to the limbus so as to not shallow the anterior chamber. To achieve this we show you a simple tip using a 27gauge needle to create the limbal tracks. This technique is simple, highly effective and cost effective.
