One of the concerns with scleral fixation of an Akreos AO60 lens with Gore-Tex suture is the risk of suture exposure if the overlying conjunctiva erodes. Today we will show you a modification of the Akreos lens implantation technique, first described by Dr. Jamin Brown, that mitigates this concern. Instead of leaving the Gore-tex suture on top of the sclera between the externalization sclerotomies, the suture is buried via an intrascleral suture pass between the sclerotomies. It’s a simple and elegant modification that can be useful in patients with thin or unhealthy conjunctiva.
