187. Drainage Retinotomy?

Should you create a drainage retinotomy to evacuate chronic subretinal fluid in diabetic patients with tractional retinal detachment? In today’s episode, guest surgeon Dr. Thada Tantisarasart from Songkhla, Thailand, returns to Retina Rounds to share a challenging case. His patient is a 40‑year‑old woman with type 1 diabetes who is monocular and now presents with a tractional retinal detachment in her only seeing eye, with baseline vision reduced to hand motions. We will walk through his surgical decision‑making and discuss the role that subretinal fluid drainage can play in these challenging cases.  Thank you Dr. Tantisarasart for sharing this case!
