There are many options for vitreoretinal surgeons when performing a primary retinal detachment repair. These options include pneumatic retinopexy, scleral buckling, pars plana vitrectomy and combination vitrectomy/buckle. If a vitrectomy is performed, a variety of tamponade options are also available including short and long-acting gas and low viscosity and high viscosity silicone oil.
