In this episode, guest surgeon Dr. Aaron Nagiel demonstrates the use of a transcorneal approach to treat a retinal detachment in a patient with regressed retinoblastoma. Why a transcorneal approach? Even in patients with regressed retinoblastoma, one concern is that entry into the eye through the uveal tract may allow for seeding and dissemination of any potentially viable retinoblastoma cells. Accessing the posterior segment through the cornea circumvents this issue. Here we show you the key steps to this surgical approach and discuss some of the pros and cons. Thank you Dr. Nagiel for sharing this video and this innovative surgical approach!
